26.09.2012 Successfully certified by Aachen University of Applied Sciences
Sinn Spezialuhren zu Frankfurt am Main is the first watch brand anywhere with two pilot’s watches which have been successfully tested and certified to the Technical Standard for Pilot’s Watches (TESTAF) by the Aachen University of Applied Sciences.
Both the EZM 10 TESTAF and the 103 Ti TESTAF met the comprehensive and strict test criteria. To obtain TESTAF-certification, a pilot's watch must satisfy all time measurement requirements for flights operating under visual and/or instrument flight rules. Both watches are to be officially launched at the end of 2012 from when it will be possible to place orders.
The technical standard for pilot’s watches was proposed and developed by Lothar Schmidt (Dipl.-Ing.), managing director and owner of Sinn Spezialuhren, together with Prof. Frank Janser from the Faculty of Aerospace Technology at the Aachen University of Applied Sciences.
The project saw Sinn Spezialuhren continue its tradition of collaborating closely with renowned technological institutions. For instance, its diver’s watches are tested and certified to DIN and European diving equipment standards by Germanischer Lloyd of Hamburg – still a unique procedure in the industry. In the past the Darmstadt-based Fraunhofer Institute for Operational Stability and System Reliability (LBF) investigated the effects of impact and vibration on specially selected SINN watches, and DEKRA tested extreme forces in crash tests carried out at the Technology Center in Klettwitz, a municipality in the Federal State of Brandenburg, Germany.
