Sinn Spezialuhren takes part of the Sauerland Klassik rally

It doesn’t take long to work out what luxury classic cars and high-quality mechanical watches have in common: they both embody timeless classical values, they both fire people’s passion for mechanical principles – and they are both synonymous with quality and aesthetic elegance.

Therefore, Sinn Spezialuhren from Frankfurt am Main has every reason to take to the starting grid of the first Sauerland Klassik rally with an Opel Commodore-B and to sponsor this first-class event. The rally, which is being held for the very first time this year, will take place from 1 to 3 October in the Sauerland region of Germany, a region famed for its mountainous terrain.

The team of drivers from Sinn Spezialuhren is putting its trust in the dependable range of 917 GR rally chronographs. SINN developed this watch together with Peter Göbel ( German Rallye Champion 2002/2004/2006/2010), the organiser of the Sauerland Klassik, who brought to bear his practical experience of rallying. Alongside driving abilities, nostalgic races are all about reliable timekeeping – and the 917 GR is perfect in this regard. The watch, which is designed in the style of historic cars, comes with a countdown bezel, making it ideal for anyone who needs to accurately set and easily read target times to the second. The power reserve display, designed in the form of a classic fuel gauge, is a stylish nod to automotive tradition. This high-quality timepiece is available as a prize for the winning team at the Sauerland Klassik.

Precision and reliability are also the hallmarks of the freely combinable dashboard clock set from Sinn Spezialuhren. This, too, can be found inside the Opel Commodore-B. With this set, any driver of a classic car can configure their own timekeeping equipment. Take the dashboard clock with replaceable bezel inserts, for instance, which keeps time to the second. This can be combined with up to two dashboard stopwatches, which can be fitted with a tachymeter scale and/or a count-up or countdown rotating bezel and flyback function – ideal for the precise setting of target times and the reliable completion of competition trials. The dashboard clocks are securely mounted onto the dashboard using satinised titanium plates or at a clipboard. And simply by pressing on the bayonet joint, the clocks can be easily taken out and put back in. As it is water-resistant, the dashboard clock set is perfectly suited to driving with the roof open and racing in adverse weather conditions. By virtue of Ar-Dehumidifying Technology, it is condensation-proof and functionally reliable, with SINN special oil ensuring functional reliability within a temperature range of –20°C to +60°C. As it is exceptionally vibration- and shock-resistant, it remains untroubled by bumpy stretches of terrain.

103 classic cars from 80 years of automotive history will be competing in the rally. It is a competition in which regularity and reliability are key. During the three one-day tours, the crews must overcome five legs and some 600 kilometres. The aim is to complete diverse competition trials, as well as passage controls and time trials. The start and finish line is in the town of Attendorn.
